Welcome to the Guidance Department

The Guidance Department is here to help provide information for Beacon's students on a personal, academic, and a vocational level.   Use this page and its links as a resource for college and university applications, scholarships, and aptitude testing.  Please contact the guidance teachers directly for more specific information.

Ontario University Applications Due - January 12, 2011

Applying for university is an exciting time!  On November 11, the grade 12's received their passwords to electronically apply to Ontario universities at http://www.ouac.on.ca/ouac-101/.   Students were instructed to test their passwords and explore the website ASAP to ensure codes were operational. 

The formal closing date for electronic university applications is January 12, 2011. However, the application website has "glitched" in the past. Therefore, we strongly recommend completing your application process before or during the Christmas holidays (leaving Mr. Venema the first week after the holidays to confirm that OUAC has received your choices and to fix any last minute problems).  Keep in mind that applications can be modified after submission.

Dates to Remember:

 

January 12, 2011:   Deadline for Ontario secondary school students to submit completed hardcopy and online applications to the OUAC.

Note: Applications received after this date will still be processed by the OUAC and distributed to the universities. However, specific university deadlines will apply.

 

February 1, 2011:    Ontario College Applications received and paid for on or before this date will be given equal consideration by the colleges.

Note: Applicants are encouraged to apply before this date as website volumes are at their highest at this time. This is not a deadline for submitting applications.
After this date, applications are still processed, but are considered by the colleges on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

May 30, 2011: 

The latest date by which all secondary school applicants shall expect a response from an Ontario university. Such a response will be one of:

  1. an offer of admission;
  2. a refusal; or
  3. a deferral pending the receipt of specific additional information.
