Pot’s Ponderings
Community. Often it is during the trials of life that we truly appreciate the value of the communities in which we live. In the church that I grew up in, we often spoke of the communion of saints to describe the community of believers in Jesus to which we belonged. A “community of believers” is not meant to be an abstract theological term, but a real, earthy, tangible way that a group of people, when united in a common purpose in following their God, can do incredible things for his glory. I have felt the “communion of the saints” – this community of believers in profound ways in my life in the last number of years.
This week there are two opportunities to be involved in community. On Friday, Beacon is having a Gala dinner. The purpose of this evening is to raise funds for our annual operations and to fellowship with fellow believers working together to support Christian education in our little part of the world. If you have not claimed a spot at a table and would still like to, give Judy a call in the office and she would be happy to place you at a table. It should be a great evening. The other opportunity for community involves the students this week. On Thursday, February 2 at 2 PM, our grade eights and teachers will be playing the Niagara Regional Police in a volleyball game. For students attending the volleyball game, we are asking that they bring a small donation for the family of Matthew Knight. Matthew is a very young cousin to Willem (gr. 1) and Luke (JK). Matthew has been diagnosed with cancer and has spent much of his young life in hospital. The funds raised will be presented to Mr. Brian Knight, NRP Officer, Beacon parent, and uncle to Matthew. Brian will pass the amount on to Matthew’s family to help offset some of the costs associated with having a child in the hospital. If every student brings a quarter or a loonie, or even a toonie, the total amount would become quite a blessing to the Knight family during a difficult time.
Ready, Set, Read!
Registration forms are available in the office for our new pre-school reading program. Mrs. Stacy Kok is leading this new program, and we are still accepting registrations. The first session began today and will run until March 8th and will include classes on every Tuesday and Thursday for children turning four in 2012. Another session will begin after March break.

As stated previously, we have made a special arrangement for the supervision of elementary siblings of SDCH students. Supervision will begin at 7:50 AM at the beginning of the day and end at 4:00 PM at the end of the day. This supervision is intended solely for the siblings of students taking the SDCH-Beacon bus.
Please make other arrangements if you will have difficulty making these times work.
