Beacon Marketing Sales Package

For those who were not able to attend the membership meeting you should have received a Beacon Marketing Sales package from your child.  We have all been challenged to individually promote Beacon to our families, friends and neighbours, and this package was designed to help you in doing so.  Please take time to pray over the advancement of Beacon during your devotion and prayer time.  We have also posted the Sales package on the Parent Protected Page.  All families will be receiving a follow-up call this summer as a friendly reminder, and to ask if we need to follow up with any of your contacts.

Reflections

We just experienced a wonderful Music Morning celebration.  This was my last Music Morning as principal, as there have been many “lasts” over these months. They all remind me what an honour it has been to serve this community of students, staff and parents over the years in a variety of capacities and how much I will be missing. I have been blessed by each of you as you have contributed to the body of Christ at Beacon Christian School. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you all.

Grade 8 Graduation and Grade 7 Reminder

The grade 8 graduation is this Friday, at 7:30, at Covenant Christian Reformed Church.  Parents, you received a letter last week with details. The graduates need to be at Covenant no later than 7 p.m. to get their graduation robes and have their class picture taken.  A choir is also performing; the students know who they are J We are asking the students to sit with their parents and come up at the designated time. Please call the school if you have any questions.

HELP!! We only have one parent to help Rita Langendoen serve the refreshments after graduation – and we need at least four more.  Also, Grade 7’s, your traditional task is to supply the goodies for the social that follows the graduation. Others will do this for you next year! Please bring your goodies to school on Friday, June 25, and call Rita Langendoen (905-562-1764) if you are able to help.

Attention: Grade 6 Students

Please return Chocolate Bar surveys to Amber Rauwerda a.s.a.p! Thanks!

Fair Glen Fundraiser Friday!

Jumbo Freezies will be available to buy for $1 at first break on Friday. Don’t forget to bring a loonie to support this fundraiser.

Senior Kindergarten Graduation – Thursday

Senior Kindergarten graduation will be held on June 24th at 10:30 a.m. at Maranatha CRC. All are welcome to join in our celebration.  If older siblings want to attend, their parents must pick them up and bring them back to their classrooms, and the classroom teachers involved must be notified in advance. Thank you!

Last Day of School - Noon Dismissal – Friday

The students will be dismissed at 12 noon on Friday.  For your information, here are some dates for the next school year!  The OCSTA Teachers’ Convention will be October 26 and 27; Christmas break will begin on Monday, December 20, and the students will return on Monday, January 3 ; March break will be March 14 – 18; and grade 8 graduation will be June 24.

Police Checks – Reminder

All those who volunteer at Beacon MUST have a police check filed in the office.  We will accept photocopies of ones done within the last three years. Those who do not have a police check will not be permitted to help in the classrooms or drive on class trips. The summer would be a great time to get this done!

Progress Reports – Home on Friday for JK – grade 6

The JK – grade 6 reports will be sent home on Friday and the middle reports will be available at the office beginning on Wednesday, June 30th.  The graduation pictures will hopefully also be available at that time.  Please pick these items up as soon as possible; we will not be mailing them out this year.

Beacon Jerseys

If you are in possession of a Beacon jersey, please return to the office A.S.A.P!!

Summer Reading Program

Please watch for the summer reading program material coming out this week, and encourage your children to set aside time for reading over the summer.  The instructions/suggestions for using these lists are on the cover.  It has been our experience that children who read over the summer are better able to handle the reading challenges of a new grade level.

Lost and Found – Yikes!

The Lost and Found needs finding!  Anything left by June 25 will be donated to others who need the items.  Please come and look!

Secondary News

Here we are at the end of another school year.  Many students (and teachers and parents) wonder where the time went.  So much has happened that we can easily forget what went on during the school year.  The yearbooks that were handed out last week reminded us all of the many blessings and experiences that we had this past year.  Remember the trips we took back in September? Can you remember the names of the Columbian students that visited in October?  What about the boys Volleyball playoffs in November and our Christmas dance is December?  In January we had some of the finest skiing conditions (minor injuries not withstanding). In February we started new classes and some of us went to basketball and volleyball tournaments.   In March we welcomed Mr. VanKampen as Mrs. Kroker left for her maternity leave.  April was all about badminton and Cheaper by the Dozen rehearsals.  We also welcomed our student teachers, Mrs. Ralph and Ms. O’Hara.  May was soccer season and a very wet and cold Christian school tournament. Our play had two nights of wonderful performances.  We said goodbye to Mrs. deRoo and Ms. O’Hara but hello to babies Allana Kroker and Hendrick deRoo.  Students went on field trips to the Science Centre, Ball Falls, Buddhist temple, curling rinks, courthouse and many other places where leaning could happen.  Now it is June and we again thank our Father for another year of growth, safety and blessing.  May this summer bring you time to rest, reflect and recharge as we prepare for the new adventures that September will bring us.

Textbooks and Library Books

It is that time of year when courses are wrapping up.  Students are asked to return their textbooks to their classroom on the day of the exam.  Unless previous arrangements have been made, students will not write their exam until the textbook is returned.  These are expensive resources that, if not returned, are placed, costing the school valuable resources money. It is also the time of year to return the library books.  Please do so sooner rather than later.

Exams – June 22-25

A reminder that exams run Tuesday to Friday.  All exams start promptly at 9:00am, so students should be in the assigned room by 8:45 for devotions and instructions.  Students must write exams at the prescribed time.  A complete and printable schedule of exams is posted at http://www.beaconchristian.org/ssexams.cfm

Canada’s Wonderland Trip

What better way to unwind from exams than a rollercoaster ride?!  The bus will be leaving Beacon at 8 am and hope to return by 11 pm.

Graduation – Tuesday, June 29

The entire school community is invited to our grade 12 graduation which will be held at 8:00 at Covenant Christian Reformed Church (278 Parnell Rd).  It is tradition that the grade 11’s help with that evening so please make arrangements to be there.

A reminder to graduates that grad rehearsal is Friday, June 25 after the exam (~1:00).

An email was sent today to all grade 12 parents concerning graduation and other year ending items.  If you did not receive it please contact the office.
