School Family
Our hearts are with Mrs. Grace Ritzema, our grade 5 teacher, and her family as they mourn the death of her father, Mr. Peter deVries. Please pray with us for comfort for his wife, Wilma, for Grace and her family, and for William and Janet deVries and their family. Mr. Peter deVries has been a valued volunteer and member of Beacon for many, many years and we celebrate, and are thankful for, the gifts he so willingly shared. Visitation is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, March 10th at Trinity CRC from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral to be held Thursday morning. Time is unknown at this point.

March Break – begins Friday at 3:15!

… and students return at 8:30 on Monday, March 22. We wish all our families a refreshing, safe and blessed holiday.  May we all come back ready to tackle the last term with renewed vigor, vitality and passion!

… if you, or someone you know, would like to register for any grade level, JK – 12, please do so as soon as possible.  We have a continual “open house” mentality, and will give tours any time!

Beacon Covenant

Please pray for the upcoming Beacon Covenant mail and phone campaign (formerly known as the Tuition Reduction Drive). We are working towards filling our annual fundraising need for 2009 - 2010. You can expect to hear from us via letter or through our phone campaign which will take place on April 12 and 13. We would appreciate your support both in prayer and financially as these visits and calls are made.  Please contact Yvonne Weaver at Beacon Christian Schools if you would like a personal visit.

Reflections

Holidays – we always look forward to them, and March break is no exception! In the 14th century, the word “holiday” meant “holy day”.  We wish you a week of “holy days” in which you can be refreshed and blessed, by celebrating God’s goodness, His creation, and the loved ones surrounding you.  May we all come back ready to tackle the last term with renewed commitment, vigor, and passion! ENJOY!!

All School Skate on Friday, March 12, 1 – 2 p.m.  at the 4 Pad

ALL WELCOME

We invite parents, grandparents, and our kindergarten students to join us as well.  However, all students must wear a helmet; hockey helmets are preferred, but bike helmets are acceptable.  We hope to have a wonderful afternoon together before March break begins.  Are there any parents who would be willing to coordinate the serving of hot chocolate at the rink during this time??

See Us On Youtube!.

Our students were challenged to create cheers and songs for our Olympics participation over the last weeks, and they were all great! Here is an example of that creative work, composed by some grade 8 students. Click here!

Basketball

The boys’ and girls’ basketball teams had a tournament in Hamilton last Thursday. Both teams did very well, qualifying for the final game of the day. The finals did not work out the way the teams wished, but both the boys and the girls played a lot of good basketball over the course of the day. Both teams defeated teams from Dundas, Burlington, and Fruitland, before losing to tournament champions, Hamilton.

This is also a reminder that all the basketball players should return their uniforms back to school (preferably before the March break).

The Beacon Blurb

Wow, if these walls could talk here at Beacon they would be shouting that “this is the place to be!!!” So many fun activities take place within the ES and SS each and everyday. Take time to check out what has happened at our schools in the past month by clicking here.

Ice Dog Tickets

We have 2 more tickets left for tomorrows game. That is the last of the tickets we have received from the Ice Dogs. Please contact Judy at the school if you would like to put your name in for the tickets.

Secondary School News

Spring is in the air…or at least the promise of a spring break.  During this time of lent, we should also take a break from our everyday activities to focus on the reasons for Christ’s suffering and death.  Last week in chapel we watched the Rob Bell video “Lump”.  It was a reminder that nothing can separate us from the Love of God...neither angels nor demons; neither death nor life nor our worst life moments can take away God’s love in Jesus Christ.

School Family

Please hold up Mrs. Kroeker in prayer as the effects of her pregnancy drain her of her normal boundless energy.  For this reason she will be starting her maternity leave a bit early.  This will be her last week in the school before the baby arrives.  Please pray for a good rest and health until that time.  Her replacement will be with us after the March Break.  More details to follow.

Athletics

Badminton and soccer practices have begun.  New schedules will be posted soon so check back.

Volleyball and Basketball players please get your uniforms in.

Teacher Webpages

Please continue to use the teacher web pages to stay up to date on assignments, tests, projects and class trips.  If the information you are looking for in not there, please contact the teacher.

Co-Curricular Activities

We are at a busy time of year when curricular and co-curricular activities begin to pile up.  Please speak to your child(ren) about their options for badminton, drama, yearbook, soccer and school activities.  We generally encourage student to pick two extra things as to not impact their academics come June.   We love to have as many students involved as possible but we also want to be responsible in our choices when it comes to load.

Learning Reports

The term is coming to an end as some of our students are beginning to feel the load of tests, assignments and projects.  You can expect to see learning reports coming on March 31.  Learning Conferences will be April 8.

Literacy Test – April 8

Calling all tenth graders.  Just a reminder that the literacy test is April 8.  You NEED to be there to write and pass this test.  It is a requirement for graduation.  Please make sure that you are free that morning.
